Q. How much does it cost to have my chimney swept, and how do I pay?

A. A standard chimney sweep starts from £60.00. The final price will be confirmed at the time of booking and depends on factors such as when the chimney was last swept, the type and condition of the chimney, and whether there are any obstructions (for example, bird nests).
Payment can be made by cash or bank transfer.

Q. I’m outside the areas you mention – can you still sweep my chimney?

A. Yes, in many cases I can. There may be a small additional charge to cover extra travel, but this will always be discussed and agreed at the quote stage, so there are no hidden costs. Just get in touch and we can talk it through.

Q. My fire bricks need replacing – can you help?

A. Yes. I can provide a quote to replace cracked or broken fire bricks, or to replace a full set if needed. I can also help with stove rope seals and glass fronts. Give me a call and I will be happy to advise.

Q. How do you know if birds are nesting in your chimney?

A. Common signs include chirping sounds coming from the fireplace, birds flying in and out of the chimney, loose debris or twigs falling into the fireplace, and droppings on the hearth. You may also notice unpleasant smells or increased smoke coming back into the room when lighting a fire.

Q. Can you smoke birds out of a chimney?

A. No – this is extremely dangerous and should never be attempted. Lighting a fire will not force birds to leave. Instead, the smoke will be blocked by the nest and come back into your room. Harmful carbon monoxide gases may also be unable to escape, and there is a serious risk of a chimney fire.

Q. Will sweeping my chimney make a mess?

A. No. Modern chimney sweeping is clean and controlled. I use professional equipment and fully sheet up the area before starting, ensuring soot and debris stay contained.

Q. Can you sweep a chimney with a stove installed?

A. Yes. Stoves are swept through the appliance using the correct rods and brushes. The stove will be checked and left clean and safe to use.
